Jeg kniber stadig mig selv i armen nu og da. Jeg elsker nemlig at arbejde med design og indretning, og jeg føler mig superpriviligeret over, at jeg kan være en del af designbranchen. Den helt afgørende faktor for min glæde er de mennesker, jeg møder på min vej. Alle er positive, passionerede og professionelle mennesker, og min eneste ærgrelse kan måske være, at jeg ikke når at arbejde sammen med dem alle, for jeg lærer altid noget nyt. Nu og da falder der heldigvis en appelsin aka et nyt og spændende samarbejde i min turban, og det var, hvad der skete, da jeg blev sat sammen med fotograf Anitta Behrendt på en opgave. Lige siden har jeg cirka 2 gange om ugen været på opgave med Anitta, der er én af DKs dygtigste interiørfotografer.
Hvad er din baggrund?
På en 6 måneders rejse med rygsæk blev jeg meget betaget af at fotografere folk, vi mødte på vores vej. Der gik det op for mig, at jeg skulle være fotograf. Jeg søgte optagelse på fotografuddannelsen, fik en plads og ca 6 måneder senere en læreplads, som man skal have for at blive uddannet reklamefotograf. Jeg blev færdig i 2000 og har været selvstændig siden.
Fordi jeg elsker at fortælle historier i billeder, om det er opdigtede, opstillede historier eller virkelige fortællinger. I mit arbejde har jeg også mulighed for selv at skabe ideen, og udføre den – det er en sjov proces.
Det første billede, der kom i et magasin, var et gadgetbillede til Euroman.
Har du stadig det billede?
Jeg har billedet et eller andet sted, og ville faktisk gerne finde det, men det er pakket ned somewhere mange år og flytninger siden. Billedet er lavet på film, og jeg har arbejdet med det i mørkekammer, så effekterne er lavet manuelt – det er meget sjovt og nostalgisk at tænke på.
Er der et motiv, du aldrig ville fotografere?
Krigsofre og katastrofebilleder, hvor der mennesker involveret. Det vil være for voldsomt for mig. Men det kommer selvfølgelig an på i hvilken sammenhæng.
At få fritid, familieliv og arbejde til at hænge sammen. Som freelance har jeg altid en masse deadlines, og hvis jeg ikke havde andre ting i mit liv, kunne jeg sidde ved computeren altid, men det er også vigtigt at slukke mob, computeren og holde fri.
Hvorfor arbejder du med boligstof?
Jeg elsker at træde ind i et nyt hjem på en opgave, og se hvordan andre har indrettet sig. Hvilke løsninger har de valgt, og hvilken stil bor de med. Det inspirerer mig meget. Og så elsker jeg også selv at indrette.
At blive ved med at have et sundt firma og masser af spændende opgaver. Jeg elsker det tætte samarbejde med mine freelancekollegaer og større kunder. En dag, når ungerne er blevet store, kunne det være sjovt at kombinere arbejdet herhjemme med udlandet. Måske flytte ud for kortere perioder.
Hvad er din sjoveste oplevelse?
En morgen under min læretid, hvor jeg mødte ind, stod der tre pornostjerner i studiet. Ingen vidste noget om, at de var blevet booket ind, og at vi skulle skyde et cover til deres film. Vi havde fået det af en anden fotograf, som så ikke havde fortalt, hvad jobbet gik ud på. Det havde vi den største griner over bagefter – heldigt det ikke var mig, som skulle fotografere.
I still pinch myself in the arm sometimes. I love working with design and interior decoration, and I feel privileged to be part of the design business. The crucial factor for me is the joy of meeting all those positive, passionate and professional people on my way. My only regret might be not being able to work with them all, because I always learn something new. But every now and then I get the chance and that was exactly what happened when I was assigned to work with photographer Anitta Behrendt. Ever since I have been working with Anitta about twice a week for various assignments, and lucky me ‘cause she is one of Denmarks most talented interior photographers.
What is your background?
I went backpacking for six months and got very captivated by photographing people I met on my way. It dawned on me that I had to become a photographer. I applied for Media College, got enrolled and 6 months later I got an apprenticeship, which is obligatory for becoming a commercial photographer. I graduated in 2000 and have been an independent photographer ever since.
Why have you become a photographer?
Because I love telling stories through pictures, whatever they are fabricated, set stories or real events. In my work I also have the opportunity to create an idea and then execute it – it’s a fun process.
What was the very first thing you took a picture of?
My first picture for a magazine was a picture of a gadget for Euroman.
Do you still have that picture?
I have the picture somewhere, and I would really like to find it, but it was stowed away somewhere many years and relocations ago. The picture was taken on film and I developed it in a dark room, so the effects where done manually – it’s funny and nostalgic to think about.
Is there a picture you would never want to take?
War victims and pictures of catastrophes, where people are involved. That would be too hard for me. But of course it depends on the circumstances.
What is the greatest challenge of being a photographer?
To have time off, family life and work to all fit together. As a freelancer I always have many deadlines and if I didn’t have anything else in my life I could sit in front of my computer forever, but it is also important to switch off the cell phone and the computer and take some time off.
Why do you work with interior decoration?
I love to step into a new home on an assignment and see how others have decorated their homes. To see which solutions they have chosen and what style they are living with. It inspires me a lot. And I also love to decorate myself.
What is your biggest dream?
To continue to have a healthy company and many exciting projects. I love to work closely with my fellow freelancers and bigger clients. One day when my kids are older it could be fun to combine work here with travelling abroad. Maybe relocate abroad for shorter periods.
What has been your most fun experience?
One morning during my apprenticeship when I got to work, three porn stars where standing in the studio. Nobody knew anything about it and why they were booked, and that we had to shoot a cover for their movie. We had gotten the assignment from another photographer, who hadn’t told us what the project was about. We laughed about it a lot afterwards – luckily it wasn’t me who had to shoot the pictures.
